Speaker Guidelines
We would ask you to be creative in the presentation of your message, using graphics and photographs, and anecdotes to make your point. You should decide on the main message that you wish to convey and points that you wish to make; and then structure your presentation innovatively. This will hold the attention of your audience.
When planning and assembling your presentation, you should try to follow these basic, tried-and-tested guidelines:- Stick to your major message, and do not get sidetracked
- Be topical, original, and deal with specific rather than general issues
- Keep your slides simple (6 words a line, 6 lines a slide, simple diagrams only)
- Use pictures where possible
- Avoid using generalist statistics
- Do not use too many slides
- Speak concisely
- Do not make a sales pitch: audiences object to these
Audiovisual equipment The conference room will normally be equipped with:
- A laptop with PowerPoint - this will usually be PowerPoint 2007
- Data projector
- Screen
- Stage with lectern and microphone for the speaker
- Laser pointer.
If you need any additional or specific audiovisual equipment, then please feel free to contact the conference management. We will arrange to upload your presentations onto the conference laptop, and to assist with technical issues.
Timekeeping Please do not exceed the time allocated to your presentation in the conference brochure. You should allow 5 minutes for questions from the audience, unless you will participate in a panel discussion after your presentation.
