CERTIFICATES SUPPORTED

The certificate issuing bodies supported the RECS Test Phase, where they addressed the needs of international electricity certificate administration and, in doing so, formed the AIB. 

This background in renewable electricity has meant that, so far, the focus of the AIB has been on electrical energy.  For this reason, the mission statement of AIB addresses "international energy certificate schemes". 

From their initial support of RECS certificates, the members of AIB now support RES guarantees of origin for renewable source electricity, CHP guarantees of origin for renewable source electricityand disclosure certificates for fossil and nuclear source electricity. They have also developed cogeneration certificates, which address efficiency rather than energy source.

Future plans are to consider addressing biofuels, biogas, "white certificates" (for energy efficiency) and other energy-based certificates.

There is, however, no reason why the scope may not one day extend beyond energy certification.
