Sweden joins AIB Gas Scheme Group

Today the AIB Gas Scheme Group (GSG) formally approved our Swedish AIB Member and Issuing Body "Swedish Energy Agency" application to join the AIB Gas Scheme.

Now, the Swedish Energy Agency is preparing to connect its gas registry to the AIB Hub. This can take from weeks to several months, as the Issuing Body must undergo a thorough technical audit, which in turn must be approved by the GSG.

From 1 September onwards, Swedish gas GOs will be considered EECS GOs.

Sweden has been a Full Member of the AIB Electricity Scheme and has been connected to the AIB Hub for electricity GOs for many years.

The AIB Gas Scheme has nearly tripled in size since mid-2024 (from 6 to 16 formal members), showing how quickly registries are moving from domestic-only gas GO issuance to full AIB Hub connectivity, and, increasingly, to real end-use cancellations rather than just paper transfers.

AIB-wide gas GO issuance reached roughly 4.5 TWh in 2025, still a fraction of the electricity market but growing fast as more registries plug in and more of that volume is used, not just traded.
